Belle Raine is an Australian artist born in Byron Bay and currently living and working on Wangal and Gadigal land in Sydney, NSW.
Raine’s work is an investigation into material relationships as a means of self-expression. Her work is influenced and informed by the innovations of Helen Frankenthaler and post-painterly abstraction.
Her process is material-led, often working on the floor or a table on raw canvas or linen and using paint as a stain, subject to chance and gravity, along with moments of intervention. Paint may be poured, splattered or brushed on, with colours often merging on their own alchemic terms.
Her images are often immersive and tactile experiences that carry a sense of simmering quiet.
